Overview Deleting a custom Entity Type

Overview

You can delete any custom entity type you created if it is not assigned to a content scan. If an entity type is assigned to a content scan, you must remove it from the scan before you can delete it. Preinstalled entity types (identified by the lock icon) cannot be deleted.

Deleting a custom Entity Type

  1. Expand the Manage section in the left navigation menu.
  2. Click Entity types.
  3. Locate the entity type you want to delete.
  4. Click the ellipses (…) in the Actions column.
  5. Click Delete in the menu that displays.
  6. Click OK when prompted to verify you want to delete the entity type.

If you delete a custom entity type assigned to a content scan, the scan will run but not identify the entity type. For scans using locations, the scans will continue using the File Inventory template and any additional templates added to the scan. For scans using document sets, the scans will continue to scan using any other templates still assigned to the scans. If the custom entity type is the only entity type assigned to a document set, the scan will run but not detect anything. Therefore, you should always review and update content scans using a custom entity type before deleting the entity type to ensure productive scans.
