Overview

Below are some frequently asked questions about the DryvIQ Persistent Label Classifier. Expand a question to review the answer.

Can DryvIQ Persistent Labels co-exist with Microsoft Purview Information Protection (MPIP) labels?

Yes, the labels are handled separately and don’t interfere with each other on the DryvIQ Platform or the Microsoft 365 platform. DryvIQ has not tested with most Data Loss Prevention (DLP) vendors, but you can configure your Data Loss Prevention (DLP) tools to ignore or use the DryvIQ labels as desired.

Using DryvIQ Actions, the DryvIQ Platform can set both labels (or remove one and apply the other, etc.) within a single content scan.

Can I have more than one DryvIQ Persistent Label, or are they exclusive?

Only a single DryvIQ Persistent Label can be applied at a time. If you add a second label, DryvIQ will overwrite the previous one. DryvIQ will store the activity in the log file (if labeling is done through the DryvIQ Persistent Label desktop application) or in the Activity Log (if labeling is done through DryvIQ Actions).

Can I add DryvIQ Persistent Labels to items in a ZIP file and to the ZIP/parent archive itself on NTFS?

Only Microsoft Office XML file types (DOCX, XLSX, and PPTX) will retain a DryvIQ Persistent Label for items in a ZIP file since DryvIQ embeds the label into the file. Other file types within the ZIP will not retain the DryvIQ Persistent Label. The ZIP file could also have a DryvIQ Persistent Label, which would be handled through NTFS.

Can DryvIQ Persistent Labels be applied in Box?

On Box, DryvIQ can only label Microsoft Office XML file types (DOCX, XLSX, and PPTX).

Can DryvIQ Persistent Labels be applied to Linux NFS?

On Linux NFS, DryvIQ can only label Microsoft Office XML file types (DOCX, XLSX, and PPTX).

Can DryvIQ Persistent Labels be applied to files on an S/FTP platform or using an S/FTP protocol?

No, the FTP protocol has limited functionality and is primarily used for moving files.

Can DryvIQ Persistent Labels be applied to non-Office XML file types on an Azure Managed NTFS Server?

Yes, this server should act like any other NTFS server.

Can DryvIQ Persistent Labels be migrated through the DryvIQ migration product to a non-supported platform using metadata mapping?

Yes, however, some limitations apply.

Can Content Scans detect DryvIQ Persistent Labels?

A content scan can detect DryvIQ Persistent Labels only when the DryvIQ Persistent Label entity type is assigned to the scan. The labels are not identified through other metadata or label-type scans.

Which DryvIQ Action do I use to update a DryvIQ Persistent Label?

The Apply DryvIQ Label action assigns DryvIQ Persistent Labels to files. If a label already exists on a file, the action replaces it. Likewise, the action can set a label “none,” which clears the DryvIQ Persistent Label. In this scenario, the Activity Log tracks when an existing label exists and when an action removes it.

Do not use the Apply Metadata action to assign DryvIQ Persistent Labels; this is a separate action.
