Overview Assumptions Next Steps

Overview

At the beginning of a project, it is common to begin planning with questions like, "How long should I expect this to take?" The Migration Planner allows you to outline the basic assumptions of any integration, primarily around the initial content copy at the beginning of a migration or first synchronization. It uses basic assumptions to begin visualization of the process, without requiring any setup of connections or jobss. You can access the Migration Planner from the Jobs menu tab options.

Entering values in the Assumptions area allows you to plot a timeline that estimates the completion time frames for your transfer. Change the values and click Reset to try other combinations of values. The timeline assumes a start date of today and uses the values in the Assumptions section to model the content transfer. Hovering over the Total bytes transferred or Daily transfer rate lines shows a tooltip that displays more information. Please read the Migration planner assumptions notes below to understand various factors impacting your transfer so you can plan your migration properly.

Assumptions

The Total data size to process may not be wholly understood, particularly when finding and transferring valuable content. At this stage, an estimate is fine to aid in planning. The default value is 50TB, but you should change this to match your scenario. As your project evolves, you can refine your knowledge using a simulation job to analyze your content.

The Daily transfer rate will depend on many factors. The rate used here is an estimate for planning purposes only. The default value is 5 TB. Achieving consistently high transfer rates requires planning, hardware, configuration, and tuning investments. If you are running the DryvIQ Platform in the DryvIQ Cloud, DryvIQ handles this for you.

The Ramp up time value helps estimate discovery, tuning, and indexing on the front of any transfer. During this phase of most projects, the Daily transfer rate is impacted. The default value is 5 days. Adjust the value up or down to see how it affects the outcome.

The Ramp down time value helps estimate a lower sustained Daily transfer rate for delta runs, versions, and remediation at the end of a project. The default value is 10 days. Adjust the value up or down to see how it affects the outcome.

Next Steps

Consider using the Platform Comparison tool to understand the friction points between your preferred source and destination platforms. Without a live connection to either system, you can explore the potential issues to look for during simulation or transfer to avoid additional manual remediation.
