Overview

The Document Categories section helps you understand the composition of your data, enabling you to make informed decisions about how to manage the content.

Statistics

The top part of the page breaks down the content into known document types and unknown document types. The total file count classified and the percentage of content the files comprise are displayed for each category. It also displays the total number of unique document types identified. The statistics always display the information for all locations; the statistics are not affected by the location selections.

Scans

By default, the charts display information for all locations. If you want the charts to display information for specific locations, select Files across selected scans and choose the locations you want to use for filtering the information. Refer to Selecting Scans for information on how to use select scans. To view information for all locations again, select Files across all scans. The statistics at the top of the page always display the information for all locations and are not affected by the location selections made here.

Once the locations are set, click Files across selected scans if you need to review which locations are selected.

File Categories

This section displays a chart that provides a visual representation of the content makeup by category. The inner ring comprises the main document categories. These directly correspond to the color-coded legend displayed on the left. The outer ring is the different document types included in the category. By default, the chart shows the file size for each category, but you can select to view the total file count instead. The chart does not include unknown document types. You can include these document types by selecting the Show Unknown Types toggle.

Filtering the Chart

You can select any category to display only the information for that category in the chart. If there are multiple document types under a category, you can expand the category to view the included document types. You can choose to view the entire category, which will consist of all document types in the category, or you can choose to view a specific document type under the category. You can reset the chart back to the default view by clicking in the center of the chart.

Viewing Files

The chart is interactive. Hovering on a segment will display a tooltip that shows the full document type name if it doesn’t fit on the segment. If you click a segment in the chart or click View Files, you will be taken to the Content page, which will be filtered based on the selected information.

Refreshing Content

The page does not automatically refresh to maintain any filtering being used to review the data. Instead, you can use the Refresh button to refresh the page when needed. Note that a refresh redraws the File Categories chart, and as a result, categories may be assigned a different color during the refresh.

Copying the Chart

The Copy button allows you to copy the chart to your computer’s clipboard. This will enable you to paste the chart as an image into email messages, documents, and other applications as needed.

Saving the Chart

The Save button allows you to save the chart as a PNG image file. The file will download to the folder specified as the default download location for your browser. Once downloaded, you can insert the image into documents or email messages as needed.
